Your next competitor is already here.
Picture a player downloading a strategy game during their commute.
They join an alliance. Make friends. Start planning their evening around the next event.
They know the game. They might never learn the publisher’s name.
That is a useful way to approach 37 Interactive Entertainment, the Chinese developer and publisher behind the 37GAMES brand, with titles including Puzzles & Survival and Last Asylum: Plague.
Its results offer a reason to pay attention.
Overseas markets generated approximately 53% of group revenue in the third quarter of 2026, calculated from the company’s reported figures.
Overseas business has become the majority of its quarterly sales.
Meanwhile, its R&D headcount increased by 289 people between the start of the year and the end of September.
Together, those figures suggest an ambition extending across both publishing and internal development.
There is a catch.
Profitability weakened during the quarter. Management points to declining older products and upfront marketing spending on newer releases, alongside a separate investment valuation loss.
Reaching players and earning durable returns remain different challenges.
For Western publishers, this makes 37 an interesting company to study.
How does a game become part of someone’s routine? How do events, community and regional marketing keep it there? When does acquisition spending turn into a sustainable relationship?
Those questions belong in a conversation about global competitiveness.
They also challenge how we recognise a successful Chinese games company. A familiar corporate name tells us little about the depth of its audience relationships.
At SWAY, we examine how games, music and culture connect with audiences across markets.

If players already know your competitor’s games, how much does it matter that you have barely noticed the company?
And what might you miss while waiting for it to become famous?
